7th Heaven Cast Addresses Stephen Collins' Past Actions in New Podcast

Stephen Collins

The "7th Heaven" cast has reunited to launch a rewatch podcast titled "Catching Up with the Camdens," but before diving into the nostalgia, they felt it was imperative to address the somber controversy surrounding their TV dad, Stephen Collins. Beverley Mitchell, David Gallagher, and Mackenzie Rosman opened up about Collins' past sexual misconduct involving minors, an issue that emerged publicly in 2014.

Stephen Collins, who played the moralistic Rev. Eric Camden on the beloved WB series, admitted to sexually abusing three underage girls between 1973 and 1994. His confessions were revealed through leaked audio from a 2012 therapy session and later publicly addressed in statements and interviews in 2014.

Beverley Mitchell, who portrayed Lucy Camden, acknowledged the unavoidable shadow Collins' actions cast over the show's rewatch. "Before we get into this episode, we want you to know that we see all of your comments and we know how excited you all are for the rewatch, but we think it's important that we say something about Stephen Collins," Mitchell stated, emphasizing the importance of transparency with their audience.

David Gallagher (Simon Camden) underscored the gravity of the situation, stating, "All forms of abuse, sexual abuse of any kind, is inexcusable. Victims of abuse need to be shown compassion and they should be given support." Meanwhile, Mackenzie Rosman (Ruthie Camden) highlighted the critical need to address the past despite the enjoyable memories they hope to share, clarifying that none of the cast had inappropriate experiences with Collins.

The trio emphasized that their podcast aims to reconnect with fans, relive some '90s nostalgia, and celebrate fond memories of "7th Heaven"—without Collins, who will not be part of their podcast journey. "We do not excuse or condone his behavior," Mitchell firmly added.

Gallagher closed their reflection by acknowledging the potential emotional impact on listeners. "We know this is difficult, and we understand that it can be triggering. But we just want to say that we love you guys and are grateful for all the love and support that you, our community, have shown to us," he concluded.

As the "Catching Up with the Camdens" podcast progresses, the cast members remain committed to acknowledging their past while fostering a safe and supportive space for their audience to reconnect with the show.
