Amy Adams Prioritizes Young Fans by Turning Down Controversial SNL Song
Amy AdamsIn a recent revelation, Amy Adams has been lauded for her thoughtful decision to protect her young fans by turning down a potentially controversial song on Saturday Night Live (SNL). During an episode of "The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast", comedians Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer shared insights into the proposed "very dirty" song that Adams was asked to perform back in 2008 when she was hosting SNL.
The comedy trio, known for their bold and often risqué humor, pitched Adams a sketch where the song, described as a duet between Samberg and Adams, explored humorous themes unsuitable for her young fan base from the Disney movie "Enchanted". Amy Adams played Giselle, a princess-to-be in the film, which had been released just four months prior to her SNL hosting gig and had garnered a significant following of young viewers.
As Samberg recounted, the concept involved an elderly couple lamenting their lack of sexual exploration, a theme Adams deemed too risky given the ardor her youthful fans held for her previous role. "She was really nice about it", Samberg explained. "She thought it was funny but said, ‘Little girls are so obsessed with Enchanted right now. They will find this, and it will be scarring for them, and I just can't mix that right now.’”
Choosing instead to feature in a more family-friendly digital short, "Hero’s Song", Adams collaborated with The Lonely Island on a comedic vigilante sketch, which involved a Batman-inspired superhero scenario. This decision was further validated when a young girl, thrilled to see Adams, crossed paths with the production. "It’s not something I even ever thought about in our line of work", Samberg admitted, acknowledging the responsibility Adams felt towards her audience.
Adams' conscientious choice underscores the importance of understanding one’s influence and audience, particularly as a public figure with broad appeal. Her decision not only protected her young fans from potentially uncomfortable content but also set an example of prioritizing audience sensitivity while maintaining artistic integrity.
