Christina Applegate Opens Up About Multiple Hospitalizations Due to MS Battle
Christina ApplegateIn a series of candid revelations, actress Christina Applegate has shared the challenges she faces in her ongoing battle with multiple sclerosis (MS), an autoimmune disease affecting the central nervous system. During the latest episode of her podcast "MeSsy", which she co-hosts with actress Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate discussed the severity of her symptoms and the frequent hospital visits they have necessitated.
Applegate, known for her roles in "Married with Children" and "Dead to Me", revealed that since her diagnosis in 2021, she has been hospitalized over 30 times due to excruciating gastrointestinal issues such as vomiting and diarrhea. "For three years, since I was diagnosed, I’ve been in the hospital upwards of 30 times from throwing up and diarrhea and pain", said the actress, emphasizing the "unimaginable" nature of her condition.
Despite exhaustive testing and numerous CT scans, the exact cause of her symptoms remained elusive until recently. Applegate speculates that the issues might be linked to motility problems associated with MS, which can slow down organ function. "Talk to your doctor about motility issues", she advised listeners, sharing her experience of having discovered a potential connection.
Applegate describes the severe reactions her body undergoes during these episodes: "I’m gonna be really honest, if I have to poop, I puke. And when I puke, I get all the pain, and then all the things happen", she explained, likening the physical turmoil to a "fight club" where her bodily functions conflict with one another.
While some doctors have dismissed the link between her MS and these symptoms, Applegate remains proactive in seeking answers, continuing to consult her medical team and recently undergoing a colonoscopy to explore other possibilities. "There’s gotta be a correlation here", she insists, advocating for a better understanding of her condition.
Applegate's openness about her struggles with MS is not only a personal journey but a beacon for others facing similar challenges. Her story highlights the importance of persistent advocacy and the power of sharing experiences to foster understanding and support within the community.
