Christina Applegate Opens Up About the Daily Struggles of Living with Multiple Sclerosis
Christina ApplegateIn a recent episode of her "MeSsy" podcast, Christina Applegate shared a raw and emotional account of her life with multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic and disabling disease that she was diagnosed with in 2021. The "Dead to Me" actress described the constant and often overwhelming pain that has become a part of her daily routine.
“I lay in bed screaming,” Applegate revealed to her co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also has MS, and guest Rory Kandel, on the November 5 episode. “Like, the sharp pains, the ache, that squeezing.” The 52-year-old poignantly illustrated how MS has affected her mobility and everyday tasks, explaining, “I can’t even pick up my phone sometimes because now it’s traveled into my hands. So I’ll try to go get my phone or get my remote to turn on the TV or whatever, and sometimes I can’t even hold them. I can’t open bottles now.”
Applegate further noted the invisible nature of the disease, which often leaves those affected appearing outwardly healthy despite the intense pain they endure. "It's the beauty of the invisible disease", she remarked. Despite these challenges, Applegate continues to engage with the world, sharing her story to raise awareness and understanding of MS.
Her candid discussion highlights the often misunderstood symptoms of MS and the daily battles faced by those living with this autoimmune condition, which attacks the protective coating around nerve fibers, disrupting communication between the brain and body. While living with such a condition is undeniably difficult, Applegate’s openness and humor provide a glimpse into her resilience and determination to live her life despite MS's challenges.
