Corey Feldman, the celebrated '80s heartthrob and actor known for films like "The Goonies" and "The Lost Boys", has opened up about a career setback he attributes to none other than Johnny Depp. In an interview on Billy Corgan's "Magnificent Others" podcast, Feldman detailed his side of the story regarding his near-casting in the acclaimed 1993 drama "What's Eating Gilbert Grape".

Feldman claims he was originally slated to play the role of Arnie Grape, a performance that ultimately garnered Leonardo DiCaprio his first Oscar nomination. According to Feldman, after he had been cast, Johnny Depp, who played the titular role, allegedly convinced producers to remove Feldman from the project. "He whispered into the producers' ear that he didn't work with junkies, claiming I was one", Feldman recounted, adding that he was sober at the time of the film's casting.

The actor shared his lingering bitterness over the incident, admitting he has never watched the film as a result. Feldman expressed, "There was a bitter tea there", acknowledging the impact this lost opportunity might have had on his career trajectory. Despite the disappointment, Feldman emphasized his ability to move past these grievances, stating, "You don't hang on those, you get past 'em".

This is the first time Feldman has publicly shared this narrative, and he predicts his revelations might evoke strong reactions. However, Feldman feels it is important to share his truth, regardless of potential backlash.

The claim adds another chapter to the complex tapestry of Hollywood's behind-the-scenes dynamics, highlighting the often unseen factors influencing casting decisions and the careers of actors involved.
