Elle King Reflects on Public Discourse About Her Strained Relationship with Father Rob Schneider

Rob Schneider

Singer Elle King has recently been at the center of public discussions following her candid comments about her tumultuous relationship with her father, actor and comedian Rob Schneider. On an episode of Bunnie Xo's 'Dumb Blonde' podcast, King shared personal stories from her childhood, including being sent to "fat camp," experiencing significant periods without communication, and remembering forgotten birthdays by her father. She also expressed her disagreement with Schneider's views on LGBTQ+ rights.

Speaking with People, King emphasized that her intention was never to harm her father but to share her experiences honestly. "I never in a million years thought that that was going to go viral," she said. "I was just speaking about my childhood and about my truth." Despite the public fallout, which included a public apology from Schneider, King stands by her decision to speak out.

"A lot of people said, 'How could she say that about her family?' and 'Everything needs to be behind closed doors.' No, it doesn't," she stated firmly. "Sometimes you have to just say things and get them off your chest so that you don't have to carry it for the rest of your life." King also touched on the positive outcomes of the discourse, particularly regarding her support for the LGBTQ+ community.

"What I will say is the best thing that came from that is that my incredible LGBTQ+ community knows that they have an ally in me," King noted, highlighting her commitment to advocating for inclusivity and acceptance. King’s latest single, "High Road," is set to release on Friday, Sept. 20, and amidst the conversations surrounding her personal revelations, she continues to focus on her music and career.
