Katy Perry Opens Up About Life-Saving Year-Long Split from Orlando Bloom

Orlando Bloom

Katy Perry candidly shared details about her relationship with fiancé Orlando Bloom and the pivotal year-long break that ultimately strengthened their bond and, according to the singer, saved her life. The couple's journey began at a Golden Globes afterparty in 2016, leading to a whirlwind romance that faced significant challenges in early 2017.

In a recent appearance on the "Call Her Daddy" podcast, Perry delved into the reasons behind their split, revealing that they weren't completely in sync from the beginning. Orlando Bloom, having undergone a period of six-month celibacy, was ready for a serious commitment. In contrast, Perry had just emerged from a previous relationship and was not prepared for another serious engagement. "We weren’t really in it from day one," Perry admitted. "I was fresh out of a relationship, and I was like, 'I can’t do this anymore. I need to swim in a different pond.'"

The turning point came when Bloom attended The Hoffman Process, a week-long retreat focused on self-discovery and breaking negative patterns. This experience led him to reassess their relationship, ultimately prompting the mutual decision to part ways temporarily. Perry described Bloom's newfound clarity as disconcerting, stating, "He wasn’t playing that cat-mouse game anymore. And I was like, 'This is boring. I’m moving on.'"

The year apart was described by Perry as "really tough." However, it became a transformative period for both. Towards the end of that year, Perry herself attended the same retreat, which she credits with radically altering her perspective and providing the tools needed for personal growth. "I would be dead without it. I would not be on this planet without that process and meditation," Perry shared.

Upon reuniting, the couple found themselves speaking the same "language" and building a stronger foundation, marked by mutual understanding and support. Perry recounted how she presented Bloom with "the worst of herself," only to find his steadfast support unwavering. This pivotal moment made her realize he was indeed the right partner for her. "If you’re not shook by this, then we’re going the distance," she said lovingly.

Today, the couple, who share a four-year-old daughter, Daisy, continue to nurture their relationship through practices like couple’s therapy, ensuring their bond remains resilient amidst the challenges of life and stardom.
