Kieran Culkin Contemplates Introducing His Children to 'Home Alone'
Kieran CulkinIn a heartfelt revelation, Kieran Culkin, known for his role in the hit series "Succession", shared his thoughts on why he has been hesitant to let his young children watch the beloved holiday classic, "Home Alone". The film, which catapulted his brother Macaulay Culkin to stardom in 1990, features Kieran in a minor yet memorable role as Fuller McAllister, Kevin McAllister's bedwetting cousin.
During an appearance at The Gothams 34th Annual Film Awards in New York City on December 2, Kieran, alongside his wife Jazz Charton, discussed their holiday traditions with their two kids, five-year-old Kinsey and three-year-old Wilder. Kieran expressed his concern about certain intense scenes in the film, such as the tarantula episode and a tense confrontation at the film's climax, which he believes might be too frightening for his young son.
“There’s still some scary parts,” Kieran explained, noting that for a three-year-old, moments like the threat from a menacing character can be quite daunting. Despite these worries, he acknowledged that the iconic film could soon make its way into their family viewing.
"We think they might be ready for 'Home Alone' this year", Kieran remarked. "If not, next year". His comments reflect a balance between protecting his children's sensibilities and sharing in the nostalgia that "Home Alone" brings.
Macaulay Culkin, who gained immense fame as Kevin McAllister, finds himself in a different scenario. He has already introduced the film to his oldest son, Dakota, with longtime partner Brenda Song. Macaulay humorously recounted convincing Dakota that he was the child in the movie, encouraging his imagination and enjoyment of the classic film.
Kieran's reflections also touched on the impact of Macaulay's early fame. During a past interview with Esquire, he expressed empathy for his brother's abrupt rise to stardom, acknowledging the pressures faced by a young Macaulay during those formative years.
As the holiday season approaches, Kieran Culkin's considerations highlight the challenges and joys of introducing young generations to the cherished films of one's own past, a process marked by a blend of caution, nostalgia, and familial bonds.
