Mandy Moore Stands Firm Amid Criticism Over Family's Fire Relief Fundraiser
Mandy MooreMandy Moore has faced a wave of backlash after publicly sharing a fundraiser for her in-laws who lost their home in the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. The "This Is Us" actress has not shied away from confronting critics and remains steadfast in supporting her family during these challenging times.
Moore's brother-in-law, Griff, and sister-in-law, Kit, had their home completely destroyed by the Eaton Fire, one of several fires ravaging Southern California. On Instagram, Moore revealed that the couple, who are expecting their first child soon, are in urgent need of support. Griff, a professional musician, lost all of his instruments, which are essential to his livelihood.
To help them rebuild their lives, Moore shared a GoFundMe link initiated by a family friend. However, her call for support was met with skepticism and scrutiny, prompting a passionate response. "People questioning whether we’re helping out our own family or attributing some arbitrary amount of money google says someone has is NOT helpful or empathetic", Moore stated emphatically on social media. "Of course we are. Our buddy Matt started this go fund me and I'm sharing because people have asked how they can help them. We just lost most of our life in a fire too".
Moore’s comments underscore the emotional burden her family faces, compounded by the loss of their home and possessions. Despite the criticism, the actress remains committed to raising awareness and aid for her family.
The widespread devastation caused by the wildfires has been immense, with multiple fires, including the Palisades Fire and the Eaton Fire, consuming over 27,000 acres. Los Angeles County Fire Department officials have announced that the growth of these fires has significantly been slowed.
