Marilyn Manson Drops Lawsuit Against Evan Rachel Wood
Evan Rachel WoodMarilyn Manson, the controversial rock musician, has officially withdrawn his defamation lawsuit against his former fiancée, "Westworld" star Evan Rachel Wood. The legal battle, which has been ongoing since 2022, has come to an end with Manson agreeing to cover Wood’s legal fees, totaling nearly $327,000.
The lawsuit was originally filed by Manson, legally known as Brian Warner, claiming that Wood fabricated allegations of sexual and physical abuse that she leveled against him. These allegations had surfaced publicly in 2021, when Wood accused Manson of having horrifically abused her during their romantic involvement from 2006 to 2010. Manson denied these claims, calling them "horrible distortions of reality".
A Los Angeles County judge had previously dismissed significant portions of the lawsuit, but Manson was appealing those decisions until recent months. "After four years of fighting a battle where he was able to tell the truth, Brian is pleased to dismiss his still-pending claims and appeal in order to close the door on this chapter of his life", Manson's attorney, Howard King, said in a statement.
Wood's attorney, Michael J. Kump, described the dropping of the lawsuit as a victory for his client, describing Manson’s legal actions as a "publicity stunt". Kump stated, "Manson filed a lawsuit against Ms. Wood as a publicity stunt to try to undermine the credibility of his many accusers and revive his faltering career. But his attempt to silence and intimidate Ms. Wood failed".
The conclusion of this legal dispute arrives amidst a broader investigation into Manson, who has been under criminal investigation for allegations of abuse involving multiple women. The investigation remains active with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office recently indicating that new evidence had been discovered.
In an associated development, "Game of Thrones" actress Esme Bianco, who had also made allegations of abuse against Manson and settled a separate lawsuit against him last year, criticized the slow pace of the investigation by the District Attorney.
This latest legal resolution marks a significant chapter in the ongoing narrative surrounding Manson, whose public and legal struggles have dominated headlines.
