Mark Harmon Returns in NCIS: Origins Premiere

Mark Harmon

The long-running NCIS franchise is set to expand once again with the upcoming premiere of "NCIS: Origins," and fans are in for a special treat. Mark Harmon, the actor known for his portrayal of Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, will make a brief appearance in the pilot episode, despite the series focusing on a younger version of his iconic character.

Scheduled to premiere on October 14 on CBS, "NCIS: Origins" delves into the early days of Gibbs' career as a newly minted special agent at the NCIS Camp Pendleton office. This prequel showcases Gibbs forging his path within a gritty team, led by the legendary Mike Franks, a character well-known to NCIS enthusiasts, previously portrayed by Muse Watson and now by Kyle Schmid.

Harmon, who exited the original "NCIS" series in 2021, will contribute his voice as the narrator for each episode of the new series, providing continuity for longtime viewers. This decision came out of collaborative discussions between Harmon and co-showrunners David J. North and Gina Monreal.

Addressing fans during a press tour, Harmon expressed his enthusiasm for being part of the new venture. "I'm just pleased to be part of it," he stated, emphasizing his supportive rather than central role in the production. Despite stepping back from the spotlight, Harmon's involvement as an executive producer alongside his son, Sean Harmon, ensures that the essence of Gibbs remains integral to "NCIS: Origins."

The role of young Gibbs will be portrayed by Austin Stowell, known for his performances in films like "Whiplash" and "Bridge of Spies." Co-showrunner Monreal spoke highly of Stowell's audition, praising his ability to embody Gibbs' essence, both in character and in leadership qualities on set.

As anticipation builds for the premiere, "NCIS: Origins" promises to captivate audiences with its exploration of pivotal moments in Gibbs' storied career and the early years of NCIS.
