Pamela Anderson's Graceful Response to Oscars Snub for 'The Last Showgirl'

In a moment that many were anticipating with bated breath, Pamela Anderson's name was notably absent from the list of nominees for Best Actress at the 97th Academy Awards, despite her celebrated portrayal of Shelly Gardner in the critically acclaimed indie film 'The Last Showgirl'. However, Anderson remains unfazed by what many are calling an Oscars snub.

Anderson, who had been generating buzz with nominations at prestigious awards like the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards, emphasized her focus on the craft rather than the accolades. In an interview with Elle, she shared, "Oh my gosh, it's not something I ever expected. Doing the work is the win. That's what I like to do, and I think we can lose sight of that sometimes in this whole crazy awards season, but it's nice to be recognized, and it's all a bonus".

Her portrayal of Shelly, an aging Las Vegas showgirl facing an uncertain future after her long-running revue is canceled, has been hailed as a career-best. Anderson connected deeply with the character, stating she was drawn to the role from the moment she read the script, which she described as a unique opportunity. "I've never read a script that I responded to like that before — no one was sending me anything like this", she told Entertainment Weekly.

Despite the Oscars omission, Anderson cherishes her Screen Actors Guild nomination, which she finds particularly meaningful. "I'm happy for the SAG nomination, that's [voted on by] your peers. That's really cool. This has been a long road promoting this film", she noted in her interview.

Reflecting on her journey, Anderson shared with Us Weekly during the 2024 Glamour Women of the Year Awards, "This is the beginning of my career. I have a lot to do yet". With 'The Last Showgirl', Anderson is earning recognition not only for her past work as a cultural icon but also for her burgeoning career as a serious actress.
