Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez, the acclaimed actress and pop star, recently revealed a deeply personal aspect of her life during an interview with Vanity Fair. At 32, the "Only Murders in the Building" star has candidly shared the challenges she faces with her health and how it impacts her dreams of motherhood.

Gomez, who has been battling lupus since 2013 and underwent a kidney transplant in 2017, disclosed for the first time that she is unable to carry her own children due to her medical condition. "I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy," she expressed, adding that this reality required a period of grieving.

Despite this obstacle, Gomez remains hopeful and positive about her future as a mother. "It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it," she admitted, but she is grateful for the alternatives that exist today, such as surrogacy and adoption. Both options are very much on the table for her. Gomez expressed her gratitude for those willing to help individuals in her position and acknowledged that her own mother, Mandy Teefey, was adopted.

Gomez emphasized that family is "the most important thing" to her, and she is determined to have one by the age of 35. She shared her excitement about the journey ahead, stating, "I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different. At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby."

With support from her partner, music producer Benny Blanco, who has also expressed his desire to have children, Selena Gomez is looking forward to embracing alternative paths to motherhood and continuing her journey with optimism and hope.
