Sophie Turner Sets the Record Straight on 'Single Mom' Comments Amid New Series Release
Sophie TurnerSophie Turner has found herself at the center of media attention as she clarifies comments that were widely misquoted regarding her experience as a single mother. The 28-year-old actress, best known for her role in HBO's Game of Thrones, shares two daughters, Willa, 4, and Delphine, 2, with her ex-husband Joe Jonas.
Recently, Turner expressed frustration over misinterpretations of her statements made during an interview with The Sunday Times, where she was promoting her upcoming series, Joan. The drama, which delves into the life of a notorious jewel thief and single mother, Joan Hannington, was not meant to reflect Turner's personal life. "I have been widely misquoted today in publications where I have 'stated' that 'it's such a struggle being a single mother,'" she clarified on her Instagram Stories on September 30. "I'd like to clarify that I was talking about the character of Joan that I play and was not referring to myself."
Turner emphasized that the context of the quote was evident in the original interview. Amidst her clarification, she highlighted the profound impact of playing such a demanding character at a pivotal time in her life, coinciding with her own divorce proceedings. "Joan changed me quite a lot," she reflected. "From utter desperation comes so much will and ambition. The series came around at a time in my life where I had to be ambitious, and I had to have such strong will and fight against the forces. She gave me a lot of strength."
Beyond her role, Turner acknowledged the support she has in raising her daughters, contrasting her situation with that of single mothers who manage alone. "I am very fortunate personally to have a lot of help around me, which is not the case for a lot of people—I applaud single mothers doing it alone," she stated.
Turner's personal life has indeed undergone significant transformations. While she and Jonas initially faced a contentious custody battle, they successfully reached a cordial co-parenting agreement through mediation. "They turned things around from the initial messy custody battle. They are friendly and great co-parents now," a source disclosed to People.
In addition to her professional commitments, Turner is currently in a new relationship with a British aristocrat, as her life continues to evolve while she navigates her roles as both an actress and a mother.
