Zendaya Reflects on Stressful Dancing With the Stars Loss

Zendaya

Zendaya, known for her versatile talents in acting and music, recently opened up about one of her most unforgettable yet stressful experiences: competing in "Dancing With the Stars". It's been over a decade since Zendaya, at the tender age of 16, danced her way to second place in the 2013 season of the popular ABC show. In recent interviews, including a cover story for W Magazine, the now 28-year-old "Dune" star shared her lingering feelings about the competition and the stress it brought into her young life.

Partnered with professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy, Zendaya dazzled audiences with routines like the samba and the jive, consistently earning high marks from the judges. Despite their stellar performances, the duo was narrowly edged out by singer Kellie Pickler and her partner Derek Hough in the intense two-night finale. This outcome left young Zendaya feeling the sting of disappointment.

Reflecting on the experience, Zendaya admitted, "I felt that loss. I was only 16 years old, and it was highly stressful. Being on live television every week? It’s so scary". She also expressed a bit of regret over the pressure she placed on herself during the competition, wishing she had enjoyed the experience more instead of approaching it with such intensity. "I took it very seriously, which, in retrospect, I wish I didn’t. I wish I’d enjoyed it a little bit more and just was like, ‘Eh, whatever,’" she shared.

Now, years later, Zendaya reveals she no longer follows the series, perhaps as a way of moving past the disappointment. However, the "Euphoria" actress's reflections highlight the intense pressure young stars often face and the importance of balancing ambition with enjoyment in competitive environments.
